Supervised Practice Sites

NEW: Washington GTTN-designed option
If you want to do your supervised practice in western Washington and don't want to find your own preceptors, GTTN will create a schedule for you with preceptors in areas like Renton, Shoreline, Bothell, and Seattle. We will take care of the paperwork, affiliation agreements, and try to find locations near your home, but expect that some rotations may be an hour's drive away.

Intern-Identified Supervised Practice Sites
This a a great option for people who want to live and work in a specific place, and people who want to plan their rotations around their interests and career goals. You might want to work with a chef at restaurant who creates seasonal allergy friendly meal, get experience in a NICU and/or dialysis center, and get your permaculture design certificate while doing your capstone rotation at traditional farm in Hawaii.  There are so, many options out there.

Your Community and Capstone rotations can be fully remote, but you need to make sure that at least 50% of your FSM and Clinical hours are done at the facility and make sure your
 Clinical preceptor is an RDN.

Practice sites can be located in any state within the United States. Each site must be willing and able to sign the Garden to Table Nutrition Affiliation Agreement. Each preceptor fills out a Preceptor Information form. The internship director works with preceptors to ensure that adequate learning opportunities are available at each practice site. The internship director and staff will offer resources and advice to the intern for recruiting potential preceptors, as needed.

Affiliation Agreements
Affiliation Agreements between the practice sites and Garden to Table Nutrition will be used to outline responsibilities and liabilities. Garden to Table Nutrition will make an effort to obtain a signed affiliation agreements. These agreements will be completed after the interns have been granted an internship but before the intern can start the supervised practice/internship. Occasionally, some facilities prefer to use their own version of an agreement, in which case both parties will work together to reach an agreement.

Agreements must be in place before an intern begins their rotation. However, when a needed affiliation agreements cannot be successfully negotiated, the intern will have to find a new practice site.

Questions about the suitability of a practice site for a particular rotation may be referred to the internship director.

Potential preceptors are also encouraged to contact the internship director prior to agreeing to accept an intern to clarify expectations and to discuss potential learning opportunities.

  • If you are doing the Intern-Identified Supervised Practice Path, t is strongly recommended that you obtain affiliation agreements for at least three sites before you begin your Foundational Practices course.
  • Use the Intern Preceptor Planning Worksheet to help "map out" your planned rotations.
  • Reach out to supervised practice sites and obtain affiliation agreements - these are likely signed by HR or legal departments. These can take up to four months to finalize, so start as soon as you are able.
  • Ask your preceptors to fill out a Preceptor Information form.

Accessibility:

Since the Garden to Table Nutrition internship is a distance program, physical accessibility for those with additional support needs will be dependent on each facility where the intern goes.
All meetings are on Zoom or in person at On-Site.

There is support for those with additional learning needs, such as extended time for assignments.

See the Program Schedule/Calendar page for a description of the rotations.
