Garden to Table Nutrition Dietetic Internship

Your first step is to apply for a GTTN internship. You will want to keep the UA course schedule in mind as you plan your rotations. Plan to do your internship M-Th and allow Friday for occasional GTTN and UA meetings / doing assignments. We recommend that you plan 20-30 hours a week for your rotations to allow enough time to complete assignments.

UA Spring & Summer Schedule 2024

You need to enroll in summer courses NHM 566 and NMH 587. You can find semester start and end dates at https://registrar.ua.edu/academiccalendar/. It is okay to start these courses even if you are still completing your DPD program. If your graduation is during the summer semester, please contact the MS program director for more options.

NOTE: consider spending some extra time (beyond 300 hours) in your clinical rotation to meet all of the GTTN & UA requirements. It is okay to shorten your another rotation so you spend an extra 40 hours in clinical.
Spring Semester 2024
  • You'll do FSM or Clinical, depending on what rotation you did in the fall.
  • If you are doing 32 hours a week of supervised practice, you should plan to start your rotation between January 5th and January 24th.
  • If you are doing 20 hours a week of supervised practice, you should plan on starting between January 1st and January 18th.
Fall Semester 2023 / 2024
  • You can either do your FSM rotation or your Clinical Rotation during Fall Semester.
  • If you are doing 32 hours a week of supervised practice, you should plan to start your rotation between August 14 and September 2.
  • If you are doing 20 hours a week of supervised practice, you should plan on starting between August 10th and August 30th.
  • Talk to the internship director if you have any questions.
Sample Rotation Schedule

November 1 - January 7 Community Rotation
January 17 - April Clinical Rotation
April 4 - 22 FLEX break/elective/clinical depending on need

Again, w
e recommend those enrolled in an MS program to schedule Fridays "off" to allow time for coursework and internship work.
