Spring Match 2022

In addition to your 1000 hours of supervised practice, there are three required Garden to Table Nutrition courses: Orientation (online), On-Site in-person in WA, Friday meetings (online).

We are excited to meet you in person this year! We look forward to exploring farms, wild edibles, and food systems together in/around Bothell, Washington. Your cohort will be the first to start learning new clinical CRDNs, including point-of-care testing (using finger-prick blood samples) blood pressure reading and bedside swallow screens. We’ll work on these clinical skills together so you are prepared for your rotations.

We will, of course, switch to an on-line version if the Washington State Department of Health deems in person gatherings of this type too risky. Reminder all interns must be fully vaccinated for COVID 19.

Orientation

We will meet online from 12 -3 PM PST on Thursdays June 9, 19. 23, 30, and July 7th. There will be 3-5 hours of required reading and assignments to do before each class meeting. Topics include: GTTN mission, supervised practice paperwork, diversity & bias, permaculture, US agriculture, cultural foodways, infant nutrition, nutrition focused physical exam, wild edibles, a clinical case study, among others.

On-Site in Washingtion

July 13th - 18th - REQUIRED
Activities will be centered around Woodinville and Bothell, WA, with day trips to other parts of the state. Tentative plan: Days will start around 9 AM with a break for lunch and finish around 4 PM. One day will be devoted to practicing clinical skills (BP, blood tests, NFPE, swallow screens, tube feeding placements, etc.). Most days will include a tour. Possible sites include: 21 Acres Food Hub, Hawthorn Farm, Songaia Cultural Garden, Ananda Farm, The Bread Lab, Shambala Bakery, Double Bluff beach and some hands-on experience composting, planting, harvesting, weeding, gathering wild edible plants or shellfish, cooking. You are responsible for lodging and transportation and most meals.
NOTE: You are required to be present for all five entire days, so plan your travel accordingly.

Friday Meetings

We’ll meet online on Fridays twice a month starting in August. These are required. We suggest you arrange your schedule to either take Fridays off, or do half days on Fridays. You’ll need time to attend these meetings and to work on assignments and study for your RDN exam. Required meetings will be twice a month between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM PST. We’ll use this time for your clinical case studies, presentations, guest speakers, and garden-to-table topics.
