Supervised Practice Sites

Intern-Identified Supervised Practice Sites
The GTTN intern is responsible for locating all of their preceptors and practice sites. Practice sites can be located in any state within the United States. Each site must be willing to sign the Garden to Table Nutrition Affiliation Agreement. Each preceptor fills out a Preceptor Information form. The internship director works with preceptors to ensure that adequate learning opportunities are available at each practice site. The internship director and staff will offer resources and advice to the intern for recruiting potential preceptors, as needed.

Affiliation Agreements
Affiliation Agreements between the practice sites and Garden to Table Nutrition will be used to outline responsibilities and liabilities. Garden to Table Nutrition will make an effort to obtain a signed affiliation agreements. These agreements will be completed after the interns have been granted an internship but before the Intern can start the supervised practice/internship. Occasionally, some facilities prefer to use their own version of an agreement, in which case both parties will work together to reach an agreement. *

Agreements must be made before an intern begins their rotation, unless all parties agreed that it is not needed (as described above). However, when a needed affiliation agreements cannot be successfully negotiated, the intern will have to find a new practice site.

What I can't get an Affiliation Agreement?
If an agreement between a practice site and Garden to Table Nutrition cannot be reached, in this case, the intern must find a new venue for their rotation.

* NOTE: In the past, we have allowed interns to go to a rotation without an affiliation agreement if all parties agreed that a formal agreement was not needed. ACEND will no longer allow this after June 2022.
See the Program Schedule/Calendar page for a description of the rotations.

Questions about the suitability of a practice site for a particular rotation may be referred to the internship director. Potential preceptors are also encouraged to contact the internship director prior to agreeing to accept an intern to clarify expectations and to discuss potential learning opportunities.

NEW Sept 2021:
  • It is strongly recommended that you obtain affiliation agreements for at least three sites before your interview, if selected. They can be attached to your DICAS application as Supplemental Materials or emailed once you receive an interview. ALL sites need to fill out an affiliation agreement.
  • Use the Intern Preceptor Planning Worksheet to help "map out" your planned rotations.
  • Reach out to supervised practice sites and obtain affiliation agreements - these are likely signed by HR or legal departments.
  • Ask your preceptors to fill out a Preceptor Qualification document.
